School of Software, Nanchang University (SSNCU) International Students Conclude "Outstanding Talent" Open Competition
Date:2026-09-22

NANCHANG, China, Sept.15, 2026 – School of Software,Nanchang University (SSNCU) announces the successful conclusion of "Outstanding Talent" Open Competition for university students, also known as School-Enterprise Collaborative Practical Projects, led by international students, from Class 2023. International students have received positive feedback from partner enterprises. Since its launch in March 2026, the program has leveraged real enterprise projects as the "open call" and student teams as "bidders," driving talent cultivation from classroom simulation to industrial practice. It has become an important initiative of the school in deepening industry-education integration, strengthening practice-based education, and innovating the training model for international students.

New mechanism: Enterprises set the challenge, students take the lead, and both sides confirm.

SSNCU actively aligned with industry resources, solicited practical research project topics from partner enterprises, and opened them to undergraduate and graduate students of the School of Software, Nanchang University. Following a rigorous selection process involving enterprise evaluation and mutual confirmation, two international student teams, separately led by Muhammad Haris Khan and Umar Abdulkarim, were successfully selected and funded. This mechanism further shifts talent cultivation from "course-driven" to "project-based," and enables international students to move from "adapting to study" to "leading project bids."

New Scenario: From "Able to Write Code" to "Able to Deliver Trustworthy Systems"

The project was titled "SBOM Generation and Validation System for Software Supply Chain Security," led by Muhammad Haris Khan, Devices like routers and smart cameras are built from hundreds of open-source libraries, and if one of them has a security flaw, the device quietly inherits it. Developed by Muhammad Haris Khan, AISSC provides a precise solution to this problem. It opens a firmware file, works out what software is genuinely inside, and matches every component against public vulnerability databases. It also handles the small devices that have no file system at all, where the usual tools find nothing. It was built and tested with an international certification body, on real firmware. With the support of the school's platform resources, development and testing are completed based on real firmware.

Muhammad Haris Khan said, The biggest lesson wasn't technical. When testers sent back two problems, digging into them showed the real causes had been hiding behind output that looked perfectly fine. For a company the project isn't finished until someone else can rely on it, and he is glad he learned that before graduating. Muhammad Haris Khan has been recommended for an internship at a sister company of the partner company.

The project led by Muhammad Haris Khan

New pathway: From technical ideas to scalable products.

The other project, titled "StoryStream - multi brands digital content platform”, led by Umar Abdulkarim, is a multi-brand digital content platform designed for overseas markets, providing novels, comics, videos, and other digital content. The platform is designed to support multiple brands through a shared and scalable system architecture. Umar Abdulkarim participated in the project as a Full-Stack Engineer and System Architect, contributing to its system design and development. Through this program, he gained valuable experience in software engineering, system architecture, and application security. More importantly, he learned how to turn technical ideas into a scalable real-world product and strengthened his problem-solving and engineering abilities. Umar Abdulkarim has now taken on a new corporate project.

Umar Abdulkarim and the representatives from the partner enterprise

The project led by Umar Abdulkarim

New ecosystem: Resources converge to empower high-quality software talent cultivation.

Software Engineering places a strong emphasis on hands-on project practice. SSNCU College Student Innovation Center has pooled diverse resources and leveraged strengths from foreign teachers, partner enterprises and alumni‑run enterprises to implement university–enterprise cooperative projects. Through the "Outstanding Talent" Open Competition for university students , SSNCU enables students to enhance their professional competencies, accumulate practical experience and gain hands‑on experience in real-world projects. From "textbook cases" to "real enterprise challenges," from "classroom assignments" to "trustworthy delivery," and from "campus learning" to "industry pathways," Innovation in project-based practice is reshaping the software talent cultivation chain. SSNCU is committed to encouraging broader student participation in this program and will continue to offer similar project-based opportunities, thereby fostering the development of high-quality software engineering talent.
